This movie follows the lives of two convicted prisoners who ultimately to bond with each other, and finally find peace and redemption through perpetrating acts of compassion and kindness. Starring Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Gunton and William Sandler, the Shawshank redemption was nominated for 7 Oscar awards.

3. Schindler’s list

The plot of this intriguing movie is set in Poland at the height of WWII. Oskar Schindler, the protagonist starts to get worried over his Jewish workers when he witnesses their cruel persecution at the hands of the Nazi. The cast includes Ben Kingsley, Caroline Goodall, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fierinines. The Schindler’s list went on to bag seven Oscar wins.

4. The raging bull

Starring Robert De Niro, Frank Vincent, Cathy Moriaty and Joe Pesci, the raging bull tells the tale of a self destructive pugilist. Which is filled with violence and a high temper that threatens to destroy his personal life. This movie got eight Oscar awards, and managed to bag two of them.

5. Casablanca

This movie takes the fifth slot in this top ten movies to watch, and its plot is set in the city of Casablanca in Morocco during the early period of WWII. It follows the life of an US expatriate who encounters an old flame, and the event signals many unforeseen repercussions. The cast of Casablanca includes Humphrey Borgart, Claude Reins, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid. This movie was nominated for eight Oscars, and went on to win three of them.

6. One flew over to cuckoo’s nest

Starring Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, Michael Bergman and Peter Brucco, this film revolves around the life of a criminal who makes an insanity plea after getting to the wrong side of the law. He is eventually dispatched to a lunatic asylum, where he starts to rebel against a sadistic nurse by mobilizing the half-scared to death inmates. This movie got nine Oscar award nominations and bagged five of them.

7. Gone with the wind

Gone with the wind follows the life of a Southern Belle who embarks in a passionate, yet illicit romance with a blockade runner at the height of the American civil war. The cast includes Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Thomas Mitchell and Barbara O’Neil. Gone with the wind received eleven Oscar nominations and managed to win eight of them.

8. Citizen Kane

After the demise of a highly acclaimed publishing mogul, members of the press stumble over each other to discover the meaning of his last words. Orson Welles, Joseph Cotton and Dorothy Comingore star in Citizen Kane, which bagged one Oscar award.

9. The wizard of OZ

Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Bert Lahr star in this entertaining movie. Its plot revolves around Dorothy Gale, the protagonist who is magically transported to a fairy tale world. Once there, she embarks on an adventure-packed quest to find the wizard who can help her get back to her own world. The wizard of Oz got six Oscar nominations, and won two of them.

10. Lawrence of Arabia

Lawrence of Arabia takes the last slot in this top ten movies to watch review. It follows the life of a controversial British military officer, and his conflict-ridden allegiances during WWI. Peter O’Toole, Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn and Jack Hawkins, star in this movie which managed to bag seven Oscar awards.
